Synopsis :

Kolbeinn loves Solveig and Solveig loves Kolbeinn. But Kolbeinn is also in love with the mare Grána. When Solveig's stallion Brúnn appears on the scene as an exceedingly virile rival, this love story is doomed to take a bitter end ... Rural Icelandic dramas are interconnected in five episodes that centre on Iceland horses.

Director Benedikt Erlingsson: “It is a film about the horse in the man and the man in the horse. I hope that the English title, 'Of Horses and Men', gives the viewer the right point of view. The word that is missing, 'stories', is the key. And of course it must be said that here in the north, women are also men.It is important to state that no horses were hurt in the making of this film. It says so at the end of the credits, and it is absolutely true. The entire cast and crew are horse owners and horse lovers. We might as well have been working with our children. I must admit, however, that there were some human actors that were traumatized during the shooting of the film, but I happen to know that they were still alive when this was written.”

Director :

Benedikt Erlingsson was born May 31th, 1969. Critics :

“Flabbergasting images and a delightfully dry sense of humor make 'Of Horses and Men' a debut worthy of celebration.”
Jay Weissberg, Variety.com, October 2013

“Some of the scenes are staggeringly explicit and entirely extraordinary: it is not every film that really does show you things that you have never seen before.”
Icelandcinemanow.com, September 2013
